Story

Hi ... right ... biking the West Highland Way over two days is the plan!!  Details and progress so far all to be found below.

Our charity is Cancer Research and those who know us well will know why.  Haven't really got a 'target amount' in mind and have no idea how much might be raised - just as much as possible basically!!  Many many thanks for anything you donate.

For those who don't know - the West Highland Way is a long distance off road path that goes from Milngavie in the Northern fringes of Glasgow to Fort William and the foot of Ben Nevis in the Highlands.  Total distance is about 97 miles with the trail being made up of Forsestry trails, single track foot paths, the remains of General Wades military road, (circa 1725 ish) and various mountain tracks, including the "Devils Staircase" at the top end of Glen Coe.  The path is primarilly designed for hikers however, thanks to Scotlands fantastic access laws, is open to bikes as well.  We walked it over the course of a week a few years ago and have biked various bits in younger days - but now its time to tackle the whole thing!!

Preparation - David

Given that I've hardly been on the bike in the last decade I thought I'd beter do a bit of prep.  Training in the form of riding to and from work started at the beginning of March.  Kinda enforced training to be honest as the VW Polo (my car for the daily commute) failed its MOT with a fault list that resembled War & Peace - so the car went on Ebay for 'spares or repair' and the bike became the new commmuter vehicle!

The route to and from work is a 28 mile round trip.  Didn't fancy riding on the road too much so using a combination of old railway lines and 'Green lanes' means that 22 of the miles are off road and avoiding the traffic.

Preparation hasn't gone totally smoothly - a close encounter between face and ground whilst riding to work in mid March led to three broken teeth, numerious stitches and a broken elbow - I always suspected exercise was bad for you!!  Photos attached for your ammusement!!

Preparation - Andrew

Haven't done any!!!  Only decided to go a week before the start date!  It will be fine Im sure ... won't it??!!!

Many many thanks for anything you can give - it will keep us going when the legs want to give up - (although if the miles don't get us, I fear the midges may!!!)
