Just Water 2018 · 4 January 2018 to 31 January 2018 ·
Agh! It’s Christmas Day. I’m sitting on reception somewhere I volunteer, killing time on Facebook when I stumbled across a link to this Just Water Challenge. I read a bit and signed up. So for the whole of January 2018 the only beverage I shall consume will be water. No tea, coffee (😳 what have I done...), champagne (seriously, what HAVE I done?!), wine, juice - nothing but water. Should be easy, right...?!
Why? Minutes before, I read something about challenging yourself and doing good - this nails both. But I need your help and support. So please, buy me a virtual drink by way of sponsoring me and letting me know what you ‘bought’ me (eg, £2 for a tea, £4 for a G&T, £12 for champagne etc)
I believe access to clean water should be a basic human right and I’m sure you agree.
Some Water Aid facts:
844million people don’t have clean water.
2.3billion people don’t have a decent toilet.
31% of schools don’t have clean water.
Every minute a newborn dies from an infection caused by lack of safe water and an unclean environment.
Diarrhoea caused by dirty water and poor toilets kills a child under five every 2 minutes.
Around the world, up to 443million school days are lost every year because of water related illnesses.
Every $1 invested in water and toilets returns an average of $4 in increased productivity.
The World Bank says promoting good hygiene is one of the most cost effective health interventions.
If everyone, everywhere had clean water, the number of diarrhoeal deaths would be cut by a third.
“When I have to defecate in a field it makes me feel so dirty and bad. I also feel scared there are lots of snakes out there, big snakes and they are so poisonous."
