The brain is the most complex organ in our body. It controls our emotions, senses and actions. So when it breaks down, we break down. We fund the best research to discover the causes, develop new treatments and improve the lives of those affected. Let’s unite to accelerate progress. Today.

Story

Kelly & I are running the Great North Run 2010 after a moment of inspiration by.. me... who thought it would be a "great idea".  I will withhold judgement on whether it was a good idea until after the Race!

As some of you may be aware, our lovely Dad, Pete Dawkins, died in 2003 of a Brain Aneurism.  We all miss him very much and we have decided to do this to raise money to help fund the vital research carried out by the Brain Research Trust into the causes and cures of these, and similar illnesses.  Dad was a great runner and we both hope to do him proud on the day.

We know times are hard at the moment, but we would appreciate any donation you can make to help us achieve our target.

Update...

We are now entering the final days before the race and have wound down with our training (thank goodness!) Only 2 days before we can get the champagne out! So all that remains is to nurse our blistered feet and get them race ready for Sunday!

Our training has not been without its hiccups - both of us have had to undergo physio at various points - and there has been plenty of literal 'blood, sweat and tears' with trips, falls and clashes with pavements! But we know the day will be fantastic and worth all the hard work.  Make sure you look out for us on the BBC coverage!

Race Day.....

Well, race day arrived and we were both absolutely terrified for want of a better word. All those weeks of training and pain were about to be put to the test...could we do it and had we done enough??

Thankfully, the answer was YES!

The whole day was absolutely fantastic - the crowds, the runners and especially our supporters - those who sponsored us and those who turned out on a wet and drab Sunday morning to cheer us on!

Kelly finished in a time of 2hr00min and I did it in 2hr54min. Not record breaking times, but hey, there is always the Great North Run 2011!

Kelly & I really want to say a massive thank you to all of our supporters who gave so kindly to the cause that means so very much to us. Your kindness has helped us to exceed our target of £700.00 for The Brain Research Trust - all of which will help them further their research into the causes and cures for aneurisms and similar illnesses.

Thank you all for your support

Love & Best wishes

Sophie & Kelly
