Behind their smiles and slick service hospitality workers can fall upon hard times just like anybody else. Ours is a stressful industry, with long hours, high pressure environments and physically demanding work. We are here to offer financial, physical and psychological support to those who need it.

Story

13th September 2011

We made it to Padstow at abour 5pm, then took a dip in the waves of the bay, very exhilarating in the gale force winds. Good for the lactic acid! We have just had soup and sandwiches in Launceston after battling the wind and rain and the A30(lorries and caravans!). Onwards along hilly, scenic roads to Oakhampton and finally Tiverton. Then a dip in the Exe. Look out for news reports on mad skinny dippers seen in Cornwall! See you all tomorrow.

PS. I havent mentioned the legs because I am in denial! All is fantastic, not a challenge at all!

12th September 2011

We set off around 8ish this morning and had a lovely tail wind all the way to St Ives and the sun came out, we took a wrong turn and ended up on the A30 but managed to get off after being over took by a massive lorry.  We are now at Pour Towan where we are taking a much needed banana stop as our legs are feeling abit hard. We are about halfway to Padstow Cornwall. The wind is now in front of us, which means it is going to be a head wind for most of the way to Padstow. Will update you all again soon. THANK YOU FOR VISITING OUR "JUST GIVING" PAGE.

EMMA & DAWN:

Emma and Dawn are very passionate, caring people who like to make a difference.

Emma set the ball rolling, deciding to take up the challenge after a family member became ill and has been succesfully treated for Leukaemia and a colleague contracted breast cancer and is currently recieving treatment.

Dawn hijacked the idea, always up for the challenge inviting herself on the journey. She is keen to raise money for research into Alzheimer's disease as her Dad is in the later stages of the disease and in memory of her amazing, caring, kind, courageous Aunty Sheena who had a long fight with breast cancer. Early diagnosis may have still found her with us today!

Dawn is Manager of the Equestrian centre at the award winning Lucknam Park Hotel & Spa, one of the UK's finest country house hotels and as such Hospitality Action is a charity close to her heart.

The Managing Director Of Lucknam Park, Claire Randall has been very spportive of the challenge. The Chairman of the Board of Directors, Mr Harry Murray MBE is Patron of Hospitality Action. The organisation has been in existence for over 170 years and works tirelessly to support members of the hospitality industry who have found themselves in times of personal crisis.

Hospitality Actions supports;

Suffering from life altering illnesses such as Parkinson’s Disease, cancer and Multiple Sclerosis
Experiencing poverty, bereavement and domestic violence
Sick and disabled children
Of all ages with a large proportion of those we assist under the age of 60

THE STORY SO FAR:

After about a year of talk and big ideas our epic challenge is nearly here.

True to form we are 12 days to blast off and we are nearly ready to go. Chris Emma's partner has been busy reading up on routes for us to take and we just need to decide wether to take the flat, boring, busy direct route or the hilly, hilly, hilly, undulating, interesting and hilly route. Definitely the later.

WHY, WHY, WHY:

Firstly, a challenge for us body and soul. A small hardship compared to that of the individuals, families and friends affected by the diseases that our Charities research into.

Most importantly the monies raised by these charities help to enable early diagnosis, delaying the advance of and hopefully to find that illusive cure of these selfish diseases.

THE CHARITIES:

Leukaemia, Breast Cancer and Alzheimers Research.

THE ROUTE:

On the 12th September we set off from Lands End following the undulating north Cornish coastline to Wadebridge then inland through Devon and into Somerset. We travel north. We head north, then north again, north, north and a bit more north. After north we continue north, north, north, north and further north until the wind blows and the rain falls continuously and we reach the lovely John O'Groats in the NORTH and collapse in a heap!

SUPPORTERS:

Everybody is welcome to join us. Please come for an hour, a morning, breakfast, lunch or dinner, an afternoon, a couple of days or for a celebration at the finish. Call us to find out where we are. Any distraction will be very welcome.
