At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

My mum Brenda was diagnosed with Alheimer's in September 2008, it was terribly frustrating as I knew little of how to cope which meant a lot of heart ache for both of us. Through the muddled & lost memories I adapted to mum's needs & became Brenda's main carer. In June 2012 mum came home to live with me and my young son Jack who was 20. Problems arose through care companies not understanding the need for a small number of personal assistants. Life was made easier when Brenda's grandaughter Becki was employed as a PA with carers coming in to assist with either mine or Becki's supervision. So much more help should be available to families to take away this pressure and to give families a break from 24 hour care every day of the week. Please help me to help others.
