Story

Hey everyone

Thank you for stopping by to see my BHF justgiving sponsor page. Ive decided to cycle 54 miles in the British Heart foundations London to Brighton event. I'm not alone as I'm going out there with a team .... For those that know me well. I'm originally from a little place called "Collier Row" in Essex. And so are most of the team ...... So it was only right to call ourselves "The River Rom Jet ski club" (River Rom is a small shallow stream that runs through C/Row)

We are a team BUT we all have different reasons for why we have choose to take part. Now things get serious & sad ....

The year 2014 will stay with me forever as the worst year of my life. Early last year my Nan Maskell was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer !!! My Nan was a tough East end lady that to me was the Rock of my family. It wasn't nice to see her go from very strong to extremely weak in the matter of months. And then we sadly lost her to the cancer on 4th August. Very sad time indeed as she meant so much to us all.

Her funeral came & went then we where all left to grieve as you do. Still months on I can't believe she is gone.

My Dad decided to go out to Spain so he could chill & relax after losing his Mum. He was hurting but wasn't the kinda guy to how his feelings in public. For those that didn't know my Dad .... Well he was a strong man that I always thought was unbreakable. Surrounded himself with his family & friends & would do anything to help if he could.

My dad had been out there for 3-4 weeks & I spoke to him a few times on the phone. 24th October 3:07am I recieved a phone call from Spain saying my Dad had had a massive heart attack & has been rushed to Alicante hospital. I was left totally blown away by the call & thinking this can't be true. How is it possible for my dad to be in trouble & in pain. And I wasn't close by to do anything !!!!!

We booked the quickest flights we could to get out there. Which turned out to be later that day. My dad had 12hrs of open heart surgery & we kept in touch with his progress via phone calls. When we landed we rushed straight to the hospital not really knowing what to expect. And being taken into an intensive care unit & seeing my hero & the strongest man I know broken absolutely crushed me. How was it possible for this to happen to my Dad. We where able to stay with him for 5 minutes which seemed like seconds at the time. But we kissed him & said our words in his ears in hope he would make it through to fight another day.

Sadly he died 20 minutes after we walked out the hospital. I 100% believe he held out for us to come & kiss him & hold his hands. And like everyone else out there that's lost a parent .... Wow how bad does that hurt.

So since that day I'm left with wanting to take a positive from a negative & try my hardest to make a difference no matter the size. If I go through any pain, it wont be anything like the pain my Dad must of felt. But I know my Dads pain wouldn't of been his heart attack. It would of been the pain of leaving his family behind......

The BHF London to Brighton is Father's Day 21st June 2015

Sadly this is my story & there's thousands more like it out there. So hopefully together we can make a difference !! Please sponsor me

Love always
