To raise much needed funds for dogs needing rescue space, my challenge is to take at least 20,000 steps every day for two weeks - starting on Monday 16th April, ending Sunday 29th April 2018.  I will wear a pedometer and post regular updates, it will be worth every step!  As our beautiful boy Jack was found as a stray, and I've walked many rescue dogs, this is very close to my heart.



Pounds for Poundies raise money for dogs who are unwanted and abandoned in pounds and need a rescue space.   Legally, any dog who is in the pound and remains unclaimed by his or her people after 7 days is allowed to be put to sleep.  Council pounds and animal rescues the length of the UK are sadly currently bursting at the seams due to increasing  numbers of abandoned and unwanted dogs.  Thousands of healthy, loving, lovable dogs are finding themselves abandoned and alone in pounds each week. Rescue spaces are becoming increasingly thin on the ground as the demand for them far exceeds spaces available in already-overstretched rescues. To save their lives, these dogs desperately need safe places to go until they find their forever homes - Pound helpers/pullers work to find rescue spaces for these dogs and often pay for them to be in emergency boarding kennels (EB) until a rescue space can be found.  EB costs anything between £6 and £12 per dog per day. 

On average, it costs £150-£200 to pay the rescue costs (neutering, vaccination, chipping, worming, flea treatment) for every dog rescued from the pound, and more if they need to be transported and moved into EB before they find a rescue space.  The more funds they have, the better chance they have of securing a rescue offer - the more funds a dog has, the less money a rescue has to find.  For small rescues this makes a huge difference.

Any money I raise will go into Pounds for Poundies Emergency Fund – this will go to those dogs who absolutely need it the most; those who have no offers of other help and whose lives are at risk if emergency boarding and transport costs to move them to safety cannot be met.
