Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit Jo's JustGiving page.
Jo was a beautiful vibrant young girl aged 27, a loved daughter, sister, mummy, friend and partner. She was always smiling and bubbly and the life and soul of any party. She touched many people's lives in many different ways, she always went out of her way to help other people and threw herself into raising money for many different charities, just a few to name are...
The white winter Christmas sea dip, Breast cancer seafront marathons, various fundraising events, a fun day last year where she raised £550 for the Lewis Manning Hospice. She was also planning a skydive for this year too, along with another fun day which she had already started planning.
After what was an amazing Christmas sadly Jo became ill at the beginning of the year which was thought to be a virus. On Sunday 15th February she was rushed to Bournemouth Hospital in the early hours of the morning, straight to intensive care in a coma after collapsing from breathing difficulties and various other problems, she was very critically ill and there was a very low chance she would survive. It was decided that Jo would be best looked after at St Thomas' Hospital in London where she could be put on a specialist machine for her lungs - ECMO Machine, this machine is only available at St Thomas' and there is only a limited few machines. A team came from London to collect her and took her to St Thomas', this is where she stayed for the next six weeks.
She overcame many obstacles and it seemed like one problem after another, it was very distressing but as a family we stuck together and travelled backwards and forwards to be with her. We were there every step of the way. We could not fault the care the staff at the hospital gave Jo, it was incredible the work they did on a daily basis and it really was 'second to none'. We never gave up hope, and neither did they. There were times where she seemed to be progressing and then came another knock back. Unfortunately the last obstacle Jo came across was just too hard to get through and she passed away on the 29th March 2015, leaving behind her family and friends who loved her so very much - She certainly didn't leave without a fight, and the staff at the hospital made sure they had done everything they possibly could to try and save her. They gave her the upmost care and attention right until the end, she was treated with dignity and respect the whole way through.
Now we would love to raise as much money as we possibly can for St Thomas' in Jo's memory as a thankyou for all they did for her. The work they do on a daily basis is absolutely incredible. There is a constant stream of patients going through the intensive care ward alone, the hospital needs more equipment to keep up with the quantity of patients and keep up to date with modern technology. They get through a tonne of equipment (syringes, wires, creams, food, medication, aprons and gloves) everyday, as they are constantly changing for infection control. New machinery is needed as the ones they have are just used so much. They have cleaners on the ward 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to maintain hygiene and prevent infection. They did all they possibly could to try and save Jo, now its our turn to say thankyou.

On the 29th and 30th August bank holiday weekend we will be holding a family fun weekend in Jo's memory at the Avon Social Club, 51 avon road BH8 8SE. Following the success of Jo's fundraising event last year she had been planning to hold another this year, we have decided to carry on with this and hold it in Jo's memory to raise money for St Thomas' hospital.
We look forward to you supporting us on the bank holiday weekend. We would like to raise as much money as we possibly can, if you could donate even a little amount in Jo's memory, it would be amazing as every little helps!
Thankyou for taking the time to read Jo's page!!
