Cancer Research UK women's only triathlon · 8 June 2013

We support the thousands of patients and families at Sheffield Children’s, from across the UK and beyond, by funding the life-changing and the joy-sparking. We make clinical care kinder, and bad days brighter. We bring play, laughter and comfort to places where they’re needed the most.

Story

I've done quite a few 10k runs and don't usually ask for sponsorship but on the 8th June I'll be doing my first ever triathlon (200 metre swim / 10km bike / 4km run) and feel I need something to force me to enter the murky lake at Rother Valley, and once I have sponsorship there will be no option of quitting!!!

I've decided to raise money for Sheffield Children's Hospital after the amazing things they have done for friends.

When I was pregnant with my son I was very excited that my friend also had a baby due at the same time. When I was up at 2am one night feeding a 2 week old Harry and heard my phone beep with a text message I was even more excited, knowing it would be news that Anna had had her baby. However, excitement soon turned to tears with the news that baby Ellie was very ill and in intensive care. Brave Ellie had an operation on her bowel within her first 24 hours, another at a couple of months old and spent three long months at Sheffield Children's Hospital.

But thanks to the amazing care she got from the hospital Ellie is now a very lively two and a half year old, and is already being lined up as Harry's future wife - she fetches him drinks, he mops up her wee, a match made in heaven!!

Anna and Chris have since done many things to raise money for the hospital and now it's my turn (although with a slightly weak effort compared to their 3 peaks challenge and the Edinburgh Marathon!).

So please dig deep and donate now.
