Story

Sun May 9th 10 - Its a victory - I did it. Yippeeeeeeeeeeee. Thanks for all your encouragment and donations. I've hit 91% of  my target. So keep donating. I'll find out t'row how long it took me to run the 10K. Surprisingly, I ran 85% of it. The first stretch I had shin splints in my right foot which was v. painful and had to stop to stretch :( was thinking oh no if this continues, what will I do but fortunatyely it eased up.My parents came over from Swansea to support me which was fab of them. The atmostphere was great and Claire gave me a great massge. Legs felt like new. Hmm. dreading t'row. They Will be sore. Looking forward to Points of West coverage of the event. Mark, thanks for recording it for me. Well guys , time to rest as I've a jam packed day t'row at work. Thanks to all the volunteers and on lookers who cheeried us on today. You were all great. Thanks too to Philip Jinadu, Ben & Claire and the rest of love running team for organising such an awesome event. with love, Debbie

May 1st!! dearest Mark and Shirley, thanks for your generous donation last night. Just seen it - I'm delighted. It's so encouraging when I receive a text alert that someone has made a donation. Who can it be??? Excitedly you open it up and hope the donater has left a message. Yes they have.  it's so much fun and encouraging. So thanks, Mark and Shirley for donating towards the Bristol & Zimbabwe Charities. Let me introduce you to my running friends: Mark & Helen. We are all dead keen and run around the same pace, it's great. We now are training up to 3 times a week  and I love my 6.30 pm on Mon, Wed & Fri.Thats when we meet up and I get to run out around on the Downs in the wind, sun.. A great stress buster. Also so much more fun doing it as part of  a group and a great way to get to know people. Thanks once more Bristol 10K - May 9th and Love Running for encouraging me to sign up.I look forward to more donations from you.Have a great looooooonnnnggggggggg weekend.

It's wed 21 April today - just been out for a run. almost up to 3 times a week. Impressed. I'm loving the b'ful weather and being so close to the DOwns. It was busy with lots of people doing lots of fun sporty activities. Almost the w'end. Love Running is great as I'm getting to the Downs for 6.30 pm 3 times a week. Now I keen to start a cycling thing going. also 6.30 pm on the Downs Water Tower. Anyone keen to come? Don't think I'll be able to keep the running up on a regular basis after the event as knees take too much of a pounding  but this is such a great opportunity to raise money collectively as a group of people. The money goes to x 3 Bristol charities that desperatly need financial support and others.  Hey I was even able to practice my Deutsch/German speaking skills with Helen's daughter tonite which was great. Helen's great - my new running partner, thanks to LOVE RUNNING fundraising. We're the same speed and she's keen to get out there and try. Go Helen. Thanks for being there to run with.. xxdebbie

Update as of 19/4/10: Evening everyone- thanks to my colleagues Viv & Stan for their donations!!Much appreciated. Am training now almost 3 days a week. I look forward to Wed 6.30pm. We were a big group tonite, temperature was ideal. Only 3 weeks to go. Will I see you in the crowds cheering me on?? There's a party in Queens Square, so do come along for a burger or 2! Plenty for all. Bring your friends. There's lots going on : live music etc. When you make your donation, do add a little note and also don't forget GIFT AID!! Keep donating. The Evening Post did come tonite but didn't take a group picture which was a little disappointing. However, I'll be checking the press t'rwo to see if there are any mentions of us? Hope you're all well. Good night. :)

Update as of MOnday 12 April 10 - just seen that Richard and Olly are the first to donate and very generously too. A magical £35!! THank you both very much indeed. I'm made up. This is my 1st ever JUstGiving website. Have you done one yet? Do you know I'm not on facebook but having fun updating this page to keep you informed on my progress. Maybe I'll join you on Facebook. I'm always behind the norm!! Back to my target -  I'm on my way but still a way to go. I was a bit slow on the start off line (with emailing  you) and now only have 4 weeks to go to get over £170. Why am I always last minute. Hmmmm.

Went running tonite. Remember it's Monday. We were a large group tonite, unfort. my knees were sore tonite and I've just smothered good old deep heat over both of my knees. Hopefully I can get down the stairs t'row. The Bristol Evening Post are coming to our training session next Monday. If I don't forget my camera I'll take a pic of us all and put it on my page for you to see.

Did I tell you that I've suggested a Friday 6.30 pm group too (to get that extra training in). This week will be the 2nd week. Come if you wish. I also went round the block this AM before breakfast. Impressed?? Tijme to sign off now. Thanks for reading. Good night and I look forward to seeing if I've hit 30% by this time t'row pm. Love to you all, debbie

As of Sun 11/4/10:
Dear friends,

Maybe you don't know but I'm running the “Bristol 10k” on Sunday May 9th.

I have never ran before apart for when a bus is about to leave… and was always put off as I thought my ‘injured’ knees couldn’t take the strain.  However, wanting to be part of the group of 600 people that are running from the church I attend, I signed up, went along to the launch, bought some trainers and turned up for my first every training session back in March 10.  Ben our trainer makes running fun and I have made some progress. I now look forward to Mondays 6.30pm as it’s time to run and meet some new people!

Like I said there are 600 of us and we will all be wearing red T Shirts with the slogan - Love Running. As a church we are trying to raise over £120,000 and wish to donate to the below charities. My target is to raise at least £200. I really need all the support I can get to raise this money. Are you able to help me?

The charities are:

St Peter's Hospice, Bristol’ (social care), ‘The Crisis Centre, Bristol’ (homelessness) &

The Noise, Bristol’ – (disadvantaged Bristol neighbourhoods).

World Vision in Zimbabwe’: helping to save children's lives against cholera, famine, suffering and misery.

Stop the Traffik’: to take a stand against human trafficking.  It is estimated that there are 12.3 million people in forced labour worldwide, of which 2.4 million are the result of human trafficking. Help us fund programmes of education, advocacy and protection - particularly for the most at risk are women and children.

Please could you help me achieve my “Bronze medal target” of £ 200.00 by donating a contribution today.

Maybe you have time on Sunday May 9th to come and cheer/wave me on? Would be great to see you and there’s a barbecue afterwards (I believe).

I’ll be updating my site with my progress and hopefully some pictures…

I hope you all had a nice Easter.

I look forward to your responses. Any queries do text/call/email me.

Thanks for reading this. Do pass on…………..

x Debbie
