Story
In loving memory of William Moyes Leslie 1st May 1942 – 1st January 2019.
My dad sadly passed away on Tuesday 1st January 2019 after a 6 year battle with prostate cancer. He loved life enormously, inspiring many with such a positive outlook on life and really taught us every day is a gift. Our world will never be the same and he will be deeply missed by his family, colleagues and the many friends and acquaintances he leaves behind.
Myself, my family and the UK POS team are dedicating 2019 to raising as much money as we can for The Christie and in memory of Bill.
Training has already begun for my biggest challenge of the year a 46km trek through The Alps. Over 3 days 4th-8th September I will be trekking through the Alps in Italy, Switzerland and France covering a total of 46km. It will certainly be a challenge with lots of ups and downs but the cause is well worth it. Cancer eventually made my Dad immobile and he would always say how much he just wanted 2 working legs so that he could walk again. So as long as my legs are working I will make full use of them, and he will be in my heart every single step of the way.
As well as the Alps trek I will be running the Great Manchester run 10k on 19th May with my daughter Georgia. Georgia is also taking part in various runs throughout the year to raise money and in memory of her Poppon starting with the Wilmslow Half Marathon on Sunday 24th March.
The Christie have provided us with invaluable support over the last 6 years and we can never thank them enough for the excellent care they gave to my dad. As a family we spent an awful lot of time at The Christie including our last family Christmas and every member of staff from the consultants to the catering team are just incredible. The Christie will always be a place close to our hearts and we will continue to support the charity as much as we can. Without the fundraising, The Christie would not be able to give patients and their families the level of care and support they do, so please spare anything you can to this amazing place. Every family deserves the very best chance to beat cancer. With your help, we can give hope to more families.
In 2018 my dad was admitted into The Christie hospital 75 times. The cancer broke his femur and he had a hip replacement as well as a preventative rod inserted into the opposite leg. He also had over 5 sessions of radiotherapy and over 10 blood transfusions - the strength he showed throughout all of this will give us the strength we need to smash this challenge and more.
Thank you.
