Story

Dear adorable, generous Friends.

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

As you may or may not be aware Nick & I have undertaken the enormous challenge of attempting to climb the highest free standing mountain in the world, Mount Kilimanjaro. You only have to look at the photos attached or any of those on youtube or surf the internet to quickly establish that this simply isn't just a walk in the park.  At almost 20,000 ft the air is somewhat thinner and as a result even walking in a straight line for four steps requires significantly more energy and effort than that which we are used to. Temperatures start at 30C on day one dropping sharply to minus 20C on the last two days. This will involve a great deal of personal hardship, and no there is no seven star spa hotels, 5 star cuisine or cocktails by the pool luring us up there, but instead only sleeping bags to cope with sub zero temperatures, no running water and deep drop toilets.

We are doing this to raise money for The Cystic Fibrosis Trust. The CF Trust is committed to finding a cure to the terrible disease and substantial progress has been made.  Unfortunately, the average life expectancy of those with Cystic Fibrosis is still only 31, but we are confident that through committed fundraising, the CF Trust can play a massive part in that statistic becoming a footnote in history.  From a personal perspective, one of our friends 5 year old daughter, Molly, has Cystic Fibrosis.  We are determined to do what we can to support this charity so Molly and thousands of others like her can benefit from advancements in medical treatment.

We are taking a group of intrepid adventurers and climbing Mount Kilimanjaro over seven long days in early September which will be extremely challenging but very rewarding.  Hopefully our experienced mountaineering friend Colin Farnsworth will see us all to the summit. Amongst those tackling the climb will be ourselves, Martin, Pat & Jason Brook, Richard Milner and Colin and his wife Bev.

We would be extremely grateful if you could support us and make a kind donation to this very special cause. All the costs of the expedition are being met by ourselves personally, which means that all of your kind donations will go direct to the CF Trust.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

You can also donate by sending a cheque, payable to Cystic Fibrosis Trust and to - 54 Whirlow Park Road, Sheffield S11 9NP.

We appreciate your generosity, but also realise that these are difficult times. If you are unable to support us financially we fully respect that, but in sending you this email we are raising awareness to this illness. Please feel free to email it to others if you feel they are interested or may be able to support us

Thank you

Love Deborah
