Deloitte Ride Across Britain · 11 June 2011

The British Paralympic Association is a registered charity and is responsible for selecting, entering and creating a world class environment for the ParalympicsGB team during the Summer and Winter Games. Your support enables us to give athletes the best possible preparation for the Games.

Story

The event...

Deloitte Ride Across Britain is a cycling event that takes place over nine days, starting on Saturday 11th June at John O’Groats, Scotland, and finishing on Sunday 19th June in Lands End, Cornwall. The route is broken up in to nine daily stages of anything between 91 and 114 miles with overnight base camps along the way. RAB is aiming to raise £1million between 2010-2013 for ParalympicsGB.

The charity...

ParalympicsGB are responsible for ensuring Britain's top disabled athletes are best prepared to produce medal-winning performances at the Summer and Winter Paralympic Games. With London 2012 approaching it has to work harder than ever to keep Britain at the pinnacle of the Paralympic movement and enable British athletes to produce their lifetime's best performances in front of the home crowds. It has to raise the money to meet all the costs this entails.

The training...

For such a significant challenge we have all been training hard, most of the team for over 6 months now.  Yes wind, rain, snow hasn't stopped us religiously donning the lycra at the weekend (never a good look, see photo at left!) in order to prepare our bodies and backsides for what lays ahead!  Hopefully the hours of training and cyclosportive events we have competed in (Wiggle Cheshire Cat, Evans Harewood Ride It and Etape) along with the support and well wishes we have received will allow us to complete this event and feel very proud.
