As most of you will know, I like to run. The last two years have been epic. They've been building up to this year. The next level in my running. 

To coincide with the challenge, I wanted to raise money to a cause very close to my heart! Male cancer and more importantly to me, Testicular Cancer. This is why I have teamed up with Balls to Cancer.

I'm one of the lucky ones. Four years ago on December 1st 2009, I was diagnosed with Testicular Cancer. A day that will stay with me forever. I wasnt down beat by the diagnosis, the consultant didn't give me the time to, he wanted to operate the next day. Life became very simple at this point. I had to fight this illness, nothing else at that point was as important. It sounds selfish, but I had to be. I did however have fantastic support from my wife, mother, brother and friends.

I didn't run at this point and was overweight, I guess obese if I'm truthful. Being 6ft6 I carried it well. During my recovery and one off chemotherapy, a friend visited me. She told me she had signed up for the Bupa Great South Run that year in October. 2010. This was the event that would get me back into running!

Since then, that 10 miles turned into half marathons, full marathons and ultras. At this point (January 2014) I have completed 17 marathon or further races, plus 40-50 other distance races. I'm fighting fit and probably the fittest I have ever been. This next year it all gets a bit more serious and requires a huge amount of commitment and self discipline for me to have a chance of completing the challenges I have set myself. The highlights being Enigma Buff Week at the Knees (7 marathons in 7 days), completing the Centurion Running Grand Slam (4 100 mile races over the year. All four are nonstop with time cut offs at aid stations along the route. The first race must be completed within 28hours, the others in 30hours)  and covering 2014 miles by the 1st November.
