Manjit Dhaliwal was in Derby ICU unit for just under 3 weeks, as a family we were really touched by the care and compassion shown by all the staff within the unit. We would like to show our appreciation by giving back. On the 6th May 2018, Gurprit (husband), Manjinder (brother),Karenjit (sister), Gurdip (Mum) and Jaspal (aunty) will be taking part in the Birmingham Great Run 10k in memory of Manjit Dhaliwal and to raise money for an amazing project that will help patients in the unit as part of their rehabilitation. Further details below:
Derby ICU is currently undertaking a project to raise much needed funds to adapt Courtyard 13, a garden area situated just outside the unit to allow staff to take patients outside.
Derby ICU believe that patients recovering from critical illness would benefit greatly from use of this area as they may be taken into an place that is away from the hustle and bustle of intensive care and into a peaceful environment but still remain in close proximity to the unit.
Having access out would be part of their rehabilitation plan.
Adapting this area is costly. Derby ICU have had a rough estimate of £6000 to clean the garden up, make it safe and adapted to meet its patients needs. Its fundraising campaign has started and all moneys received will go into the ICU Trust Fund, subset ‘Let’s go outside project’.
