Yeh, I know it's not  a picture of me, this is my friend's daughter and this is her story, as she tells it - it's the reason I'll pounding the streets of New York for 26 miles, 385 yards!!

 

"I was born on the 9th September 2001 with my twin sister at Frimley Park Hospital.  We were born when my Mummy was only 25 weeks pregnant; I was 1Ib 8oz and my sister was even smaller at 1Ib 7oz. We were cared for at UCH and Royal Berks Hospital, but we were so poorly we were both taken to instensive care neonatal at Great Ormond Street Hospital.  

 

I had to have many operations; I needed my heart duct closed, part of my gut removed because i had Necrotzing Enterocolotis as well as coping with bleeds on the brain, Epilepsy, Viral Meningitis, Internal bleeding, a stoma bag...oh and Sceptismia.

 

Sadly, in Febuary 2002 my sister lost her fight and she died... but I kept going with all the fanatisic care from the doctors and nurse's.  It was really good as well that my Mummy and Daddy were able to stay in near by appartments when we were in intensive care, then as I got better there was a bed in my room so they could stay and help look after me. I got to go home when I was 8 months old and weighing just under 10lbs.

 

I have been discharged this year by the Doctors at GOSH as i am fighting fit and perfectly healthy, and that's thanks to the amazing hospital..."

 

An amazing story! Whilst she luckily doesn't need the services of GOSH anymore, others do. It's got to be worth a few quid, so dig deep!
