Story

Thanks for visiting my JustGiving page.

On Sunday 17th April 2011 I ran my 12th London Marathon in a time of -well I'm not going to tell you but it's easy enough to find out. I believe that about 33000 runners finished ahead of me but that 13000 or so finished behind so my time wasn't all that bad!

I have been running marathons to raise money for cancer research in memory of my wife Celia and my father Bappa - real name Vithal - who both succumbed to cancer in 1998 and 1999 respectively. The charity I support is AICR (Association for International Cancer Research). Over the years I have raised more than £20,000 for them and, not for nothing, I can see we have made progress against cancer but we need to make a lot more. This year AICR  set me a target of £2000.

In the months prior to the marathon I ran every Monday from Petersfield to Rowlands Castle and back along the very scenic country road, a distance of 18 miles. There aren't many houses or road users and so I was largely left alone. I must have become a familiar sight by the end; the farm dogs stopped barking at me after a while; well one carried on but but he wagged his tail at the same time. Two alpacas in a field at Finchdean took no more notice of me than they would have done in their native Bolivia.
