I'm taking on this challenge on 21 April 2018 because:
(1) I have no idea if I can actually walk 50 miles in 24 hours, and I want to see if I can. The furthest I've ever walked in one go is 25 miles, and that was tough. I also want to show that having type 1 diabetes and being registered blind is no reason not to get out and do challenging and active things. Both conditions make it a lot harder, but neither make it impossible.

(2) I am a little bit mad.

(3) Most importantly, because Action4Diabetics saves the lives of children with type 1 diabetes. Having had the condition since I was 7, and having lost a lot of my sight 20 years ago as a result, as well as having lost my dad to type 1 diabetes several years ago, I know how deadly it can be. In the UK we have amazing support from the NHS and others: we get free medication, we get access to amazing cool technology to help keep us alive, and we get a lot of education and support. In SE Asia, children with type 1 diabetes typically just die. My walking for 24 hours in the Peaks and suffering for a single day will keep at least one child alive for a year. More than one, if I get enough donations. And perhaps even more importantly, it raises awareness of the issues. Every little bit of money donated helps, and it goes directly where needed with no financial waste.
