Diane Bedford - The Prince of Wales Hospice Starlight Walk

The Prince of Wales Hospice, Pontefract - Ladies Starlight Walk · 18 June 2011 ·
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Nearly four years ago now my father-in-law went into Wakefield Hospice where he spent his last few weeks.
He'd been ill with cancer on and off for years and in his last year we spent a great deal of time in hospitals, supporting him at home and visiting him in the hospice. His last few months dragged on until he managed to get a place in Wakefield Hospice.
This centre is staffed mainly by volunteers who can't do enough for the people they are looking after. It really is a small haven for those who are suffering. On his last night they cared not only for him, but for us as well, even being on hand with a brandy when the inevitable happened. I've always thought of the people who work there as angels - I'm not sure I could do it.
OK, so this isn't for Wakefield Hospice, but hospices do an amazing job and I try to contribute whenever I can, so when a friend asked me to do this walk with her for The Prince of Wales Hospice in Pontefract. I jumped at the chance (well almost).
It's not climbing Mount Everest, cycling from John O'Groats to Lands End or swimming the channel, but it is helping a very worthwhile cause.
What I do have to do is:
- a 10 mile walk... in Castleford (scary in itself)... starting at midnight... in a bright yellow t-shirt... and listening to my friend spouting on about Castleford (or Castlefax) Tigers all night
It's ludicrous that these places aren't publicly funded, so please, even if it's only a few quid, help me to give something back.
