We provide fell and cave rescue services to help people and animals in difficulty

Story

I am really happy to report that I have completed the Manaslu Circuit. The whole time it was touch and go because of unseasonal snow and we were meeting people making their way back down because the pass was closed. We kept walking upwards hoping luck would be on our side and at 5am on 29th March we set off with the moon in a clear sky. 6 hours later we reached the highest point of our journey at the Larkya La.

I just wanted to say a massive thank you to the team and for the generosity of everyone who donated in memory of Alison. The Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association is delighted.

I am fund raising in memory of my sister Alison who went missing in Papua New Guinea while doing VSO an unbelievable 36 years ago.

Recently I have been lucky to meet some of the committed members of the Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Team who carry out search and rescue operations and I felt I wanted to support a charity that understands the importance of searching for missing people.

Alison and I grew up in Yorkshire going to Menston Primary and BGGS together, she then went on to study nutrition at Queen Elizabeth College, London. She loved the Dales and with her friends took me youth hostelling there (age 12) for my very first holiday without parents. We had an in-joke about Anapurna and I am heading out to Nepal on March 15th to do the Manaslu circuit trek. I will be walking around 200 miles in 18 days - starting at about 600 metres up to a final altitude of over 5,100 metres at the Larkya La pass and then down to join the Anapurna circuit trek.

You can sponsor me by the mile or the metre or just donate to this really worthwhile cause in Alison's memory. Many thanks!!
