Story
Thanks for taking thetime to visit my JustGiving page.
Following our attempt last year I have had the opportunity to enter the challenge again with another team of friends and succeeded in reaching the French shore after 15hrs and 30mins on 9th July 2015.
Here's my story sofar: After a series of losses of people and places no longer in my life, Idecided to set myself a huge goal - to give myself a sense of direction andpurpose. So, on 1st January 2013, I decided that within three years I wouldbecome fit and strong with the right mental focus to swim across the EnglishChannel. I'm now half way through the process and grateful for the opportunityto swim for the Build Africa team as part of my training.
I carried out researchon becoming a Channel swimmer and learnt that you have to condition your bodyto the cold water. In May 2013 I made a pledge to swim 52 weeks a year regardlessof the weather and with some friends’ started the social swim group#ChesterFrosties. My biggest achievement by the end of the season in Septemberwas a 3 mile swim down the River Dee in Chester with the BLDSA and I raised over £600 for the British Heart Foundation. I also became an 'Winter Swimmer' by completing an Endurance 'Chill Swim' at Salford Quays later in the year December 2013!
My first year training was amazing and I not only transformed my health and fitness, I gained lots of energy and vitality too! I have made some great lifelong friends in the open water swimming and Tri world communities. Please help me this year 2017/18 to support and raise money for Build Africa Charity's work in some of the most poverty stricken areas of Africa.
