2010 Edinburgh Marathon · 23 May 2010 ·

Every day in the UK, another 240 people wake up to the catastrophic impact of a stroke. The Stroke Association is the only charity in the UK providing lifelong support for all stroke survivors and their families.

Story

Run Fat Boy Run!!!

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As many of you will know, mainly on the back of my constant moaning, I am running the Edinburgh Marathon at the end of May. Training started back in October and whilst I've enjoyed trudging around throughout the coldest winter in forever, having prolonged periods away from a drink, losing a stone and a half (not really grumbling about this!) and a rather painful bout of physiotherapy recently I must admit that as the day draws near I will be glad to just get to the end of it all!!

Anyway the important bit is nothing to do with any of this, whilst it has been a long standing ambition of mine to run a marathon if I can convince you fine folk to part with some of your hard earned cash on the back of it that's what really matters! I have decided to raise money for the Stroke Association, a charity whose work and support is very close to my heart. As many of you will know both my father and grandfather have suffered the devastating effects of a stroke, Dad was paralysed completely down his left side in 2000 and whilst he was in hospital learning to deal with the changes and challenges he now faced, a combination of stroke and a heart attack caused the death of his father.

So whilst some might say that this is an investment in my future rather than an act of charity I would ask you to please donate anything that you can, the research and support that the Stroke Association offer really is a massive help to all of those whose lives are permanently changed by a stroke. Many of my friends and extended family have also been directly affected and have their own stories to tell, to put it into perspective: someone has a stroke in the every 5 minutes and it is the leading cause of disability in the country, 250,000 people live with disabilities caused by a stroke. The Stroke Association is the only charity solely concerned with preventing stroke and ensuring that everyone touched by stroke across the gets the help they need. Every penny they receive can be put to good use so please please give anything you can to help them.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now, I’ll let you know how it all goes off and if you all give me enough cash I’ll pop a couple of post event photos up here for your amusement!!

Thank you in advance,

Dom
