Anyone can get Parkinson’s. It gets worse over time and there’s no cure. Yet. Funding research into the most promising treatments, we’re getting closer to a cure. Until then, we're improving life for people with Parkinson’s, and the people in their lives. Together we'll find a cure.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

We are getting our teams together from across all of our 46 Domino's stores to raise money for a charity that means a lot to us.

Our founder and chairman John Shedden was diagnosed with Parkinson's 5 years ago. This is his story:

John went to see a private specialist nearly 5 years ago when he started to have problems with his arm. He was told it was an 'essential tremor' (a common type of tremor) and nothing much to worry about. But when his symptoms started getting worse he went to his GP who referred him back to the same private specialist.

"The specialist gave me a few simple tests and then said quiet matter-of-factly that I had Parkinson's. It wasn't a total shock to me - I know people with the condition and am aware of the symptoms. But the lack of sensitivity was a surprise."

John was given medication but not much support or information on the condition. When his symptoms continued to get worse, the advice was to up his medication dose and get on with things. At this point John started searching online for more information and came across Parkinson's UK.

"I'm not really one to Google stuff but I got in touch with a Parkinson's local advisor who advised I see a Parkinson's nurse. There was so much support available that I'd not known about. My nurse helped me figure out a complicated letter about medication that my new specialist had sent me, as well as offering to help get me physiotherapy, which I'd not really explored before."

John now also has a blue badge (a parking permit which enables disabled drivers and passengers park nearer to where they are going), but not before some convincing from his wife Christine.

"I didn't think it was for me at first but I caved in the day I parked up in a disabled bay to pick up my prescription and was given a parking ticket!"

John and his team from the 46 Domino's stores that make up the Full House Restaurants franchise have pledged to raise at least £100k for the charity. We are well on our way and are taking part in the Thames Path challenge to raise the remaining few thousand of pounds! We have been donating sales from some of our pizzas over the past few months and our team has already climbed Snowdon to help get us closer to the target.

"I have my good days and bad days, but I'm still putting in 40 hours a week and still do all the things I want to do. My fight is still there".
