DKMS - donation

DKMS - donation · 12 May 2021
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In May 2020, Donna was 32 years old, had a busy full-time job, exercised regularly, ate healthy and basically enjoyed life to the full. She had routine blood tests taken which revealed that she had abnormalities in her blood count and was referred to see a haematologist.
Within days it was confirmed she had acute myeloid leukaemia an aggressive form of blood cancer. To say this was a shock is an understatement.
She was required to start chemo treatment in the next few weeks with the hope she would reach clinical remission.
Prior to the treatment she was told a stem cell transplant could be her best chance of long term cure.
Donna received a stem cell donation from her only sibling Gemma, as she turned out to be a positive match. If she hadn’t been a match she would have required to look to the global stem cell register to find an unrelated donor.
Donna is in the middle of a long and slow recovery following transplant and volunteers for DKMS to help promote the stem cell register and raise money for the charity. There are many people who cannot find a match. They are relying on more people signing up to the register and the charity processing each individual swab onto the stem cell register. Each registration costs £40.
Any donations at all are so valuable to the charity and the process in the fight against blood cancer.
Thank you so much for any contribution you can offer.
