We raise funds to support breast cancer patients

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I was diagnosed in June with breast cancer. Following the diagnosis, I underwent surgery and received a pack from a charity called Breast Friends and Family. This charity is set up to support cancer patients at St Johns Hospital and they provide things like mastectomy bras and products to help ease the effects of chemotherapy.

I received a bag of things to help me through my recovery. In my bag there was a cooling pack, lavender bag, a stress ball, slippers etc. One of the most useful things in this pack was a little handmade heart cushion that I used to protect my wound and make myself comfortable while I healed. Such a little thing that made a big difference.

Small charities like this can only continue providing support with help from fundraising and I would love to help and give something back. If you could please spare a little for this amazing cause that would mean so much to me. Dot xx

About the charity

Breast Friends and Family support breast cancer patients at St John’s Hospital in Livingston, through diagnosis, treatment and recovery; to provide the little things that make a big difference. Breast Friends and Family has been setup by Hazel, her sister Mandy, mother Sylvia and daughter Holly. Hazel was diagnosed with breast cancer in June 2015 which shocked the family but the challenges this diagnosis brought were faced with a steely determination to keep life going as normal and provide Hazel with the support she needed through treatment and recovery. The family realised that patients are supported by a number of cancer charities, each one giving additional support that patients are not even aware that they need. They began fund raising, by dancing, running, walking, knitting, sewing and organising events in support of many cancer charities. Hazel was given lots of support from a local charity based at St John’s Hospital in Livingston. As she recovered she wanted to help and support this local charity so that others like her, having a breast cancer diagnosis, were helped in the way that she was. Sadly this charity is no longer running. Hazel and her family and friends are now determined to make sure that all patients diagnosed with breast cancer at St John’s, are given the kind of help they don’t even realise they need. Providing the little things that make a big difference.
