Edinburgh Children's Hospital Charity believes no child should face hospital alone. Every day, 500 seriously ill children face a life-changing hospital visit. Children tell us it can be frightening. Parents say they're sick with worry. We want to change this. With your support, we can. Are you in?

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I'm raising money for the Royal Hospital For Sick Children Edinburgh (Sick Kids) in memory of Hannah Bostock. Hannah suffered from Congenital Melanocytic Naevus (CMN). This is a condition that causes large birth marks all over the body. It can also cause serious internal problems.

Sadly Hannah developed a malignant melanoma in her central nervous system that proved fatal despite the best effort of Dr Kinsler in Great Ormond Street Hospital London and the cancer specialists in Sick Kids in Edinburgh.

Hannah never complained. After extensive surgery and treatment she returned to school and published her first novel. Following a sudden and unexpected progression of her disease, she died peacefully with her loving and devoted mum by her side on the 17th of April 2011 aged 10 years.

Before she died Hannah expresssed the wish that tissue samples from her be used to further research into CMN. Already this has resulted in advances in the understanding and future treatment of this disease.

I am raising funds in honour of Hannah and support of Sick Kids.

I thought I should post an update on this page. I have been completely overwhelmed by the generosity shown by so many people. it is testament to the courage shown by Hannah. I know that even those who did not know Hannah directly were touched by her story and dug even deeper into their pockets to donate to this charity. I cannot express the depth of gratitude I feel to all contributers!

I would like to add that Hannah was in no way defined by her illness. She was many things before she was a patient with CMN. she proved this by the life she continued to live even after extensive surgeries and treatment. She is greatly missed by all who knew her.

I had a fantastic time, the weather was perfect, the crowds were supportive. My time was 4hrs 30min 48sec. I am delighted! My ride number was 1570 if you wish to double check this result on the RideLondon website.

I do not have my final fund total yey as I have still to tally the off-line donations but the sum will be over £6,700. Thanks again everyone,
