Duncan's Namibia Challenge Page · 16 August 2019
The Lairig Ghru is the best known hill-pass in Scotland. It climbs to an altitude of 835 metres and crosses through the central Cairngorms, one of the wildest areas in the country. The Lairig is a long walk through very remote and exposed terrain, hence is given Grade 4 difficulty. This walk was completed by myself and colleagues on the 22ndJune 2019 in a time of 7hrs 45 mins (see photos).
The Namibia Challenge is an endurance testing 7 day bike/trek/walk across Namibia, commencing in Windhoek and finishing in Uis.
Not only will this be physically challenging, but for anyone who knows me, wild camping will certainly be a test of my mental strength!
I am looking to raise a further £3,250 to support the Advanta Foundation and continue to help sick & disadvantaged children throughout the world and in the UK to lead a better life.
The cost of the event itself is being met in full by Advanta Wealth, meaning that all funds raised will directly benefit the charity and the children's charities that they support. Every pound donated results in 50p being spend on UK children and 50p being spend on African children.
The itineray for the event is detailed below;
Day 1
100km bike ride crossing the Gamberg pass
Day 2
65km bike ride followed by a 2 hour hike
Day 3
70km bike ride followed by a 4 hour hike through the Kuiseb river to Gobabeb
Day 4
30km bike ride through desert dunes from Walisbay to Swakopmund
Day 5
Hike to Wasserfall flaeche and make camp ready to climb Koenigstein
Day 6
Climb Koenigstein
Day 7
Descend Koenigstein
The Advanta Foundation
The Advanta Foundation is a Scottish registered children’s charity who raise, donate and support various children’s charities both in the UK and worldwide.
The charity was originally established in October 2005 (previously
known as One 4 Kids) and throughout the years has raised an astounding £600,000 through various fundraising and social events. Every single penny raised has gone to help a child in need and the cost of hosting each event has been met by One Solution Group and Advanta Wealth to ensure that all funds raised benefit the charity directly.
A large number of children’s charities, both at home and overseas, have benefited from the foundation’s donations over the years. These include, but are not exclusive to, the Children’s Hospice Association for Scotland, The Jeely Piece Club in Glasgow, The Music for Life Program in Kenya, The Tunahaki Foundation in Tanzania and The Catalyst Foundation in Vietnam
In recent years, they have worked in close affiliation with
another charity, RUDA UK and their principal project of building and running the School of Excellence in Namanditi, Tanzania.
On 3 occasions, both One Solution Group and Advanta Wealth have
sent a team out to the school in Namanditi to run lessons in English, arts and crafts and even music. They also plan to run further volunteer programmes going
forwards.
