The Highland Cross · 19 June 2010

Highland Cross is a 50 mile duathlon (walking or running 20 miles and cycling 30 miles) across Scotland from Kintail to Beauly. The event is organised by volunteers to raise funds for charities across the Highlands. Since 1983, over £6.6m has been raised and distributed in full to deserving causes.

Story

It's that time of year................ and once again the Dumplings are taking part in the midsummer madness of the Highland Cross. Just a wee 20 mile run up a big hill, followed by a 30 mile cycle, taking us from the West Coast of Scotland to the East Coast, all in a day. Last year during the run, we all said "never again", but like childbirth how quickly we forgot and signed up!! Getting that medal, meeting some of the folk your money helped and being showered by champagne at the end did the trick. At the moment, Dr Dumpling is struggling with an injury, but we're still hoping she is going to be ok on the day, so fingers crossed.

STOP PRESS, the Doc is out, with a stress fracture!!! She will recover but not in time for the big day. We will miss her all the way. In her place we have Paul Ray, who is a bit of a gadget man, so it had to be Apple Dumpling. It is Paul's first Highland Cross, so it was great he offered to stand in at such short notice as our Honorary Dumpling.

Last year, thanks to all of you, we raised a fantastic amount, and we are hoping to do the same again.

The main charities this year are Chest, Heart and Stroke Scotland, Lochleven Community Minibus, Birchwood Highland and the Seagull Trust. We would be so chuffed if you can dig down deep into those pockets and handbags and support us with this self inflicted torture.

Thanks

Maragret, Lynsay, Janice and Paul xxxx
