The National Autistic Society is here to transform lives, change attitudes and create a society that works for autistic people. There is still so much to do to increase opportunities, reduce social isolation and build a brighter future for autistic people. With your help, we can make it happen.

Story

Thank you for visiting our page and we hope you will donate to the National Autistic Society in memory of our son Dylan Hockley who was a victim of the Sandy Hook School tragedy on December 14th, 2012.

Dylan was born in the UK at Winchester Hospital in March 2006. His autism was first noticed by his pre-school teachers and we began our journey to help Dylan overcome his challenges.

The family relocated to Newtown, Connecticut in the winter of 2011. We chose this town for it's wonderful schools. Dylan was receiving fantastic support and making excellent progress with his speech and social skills.

After December 14th we started the Dylan Hockley Memorial Fund and were amazed by the outpouring of love from around the world. With so many friends in the UK wanting to support us, we asked the National Autistic Society how we could raise money for them in Dylan's name. This page, and the events that people are now starting to run, come from that.

Dylan would flap his arms when exited, and once when we asked him why he did this, he said "I am a beautiful butterfly". It is said a butterfly flapping its wings can cause a hurricane on the other side of the world. Dylan's wings will help change the world.

Our society's understanding and acceptance of autism has to improve, to give children on the spectrum every opportunity to develop to their maximum potential. This requires additional funding and resources which the traditional authorities cannot always fulfil. Anyone who worked with Dylan can share the sheer joy and love of life he had. We want other children to get the same start in life that he was getting, and continue through their life journey.
