Rising concern over the continuing high level of fatal and life-changing injury accidents on farms prompted NFU Mutual to set up a charitable foundation to help all farmers, and especially young farmers, work more safely. The Foundation works closely with farmers, the farming unions and a range of farming organisations, including the Farm Safety Partnerships of England, Wales, and Northern Ireland, to help reduce the toll of fatal and serious injury accidents which, regrettably, have made farming the most dangerous occupation in the UK. The Foundation's 'Yellow Wellies' campaign specifically targets young farmers aged 16 to 40 years of age.

Story

In 2019 I was working on a farm in New Zealand and was involved in a farm accident. After five days I woke up from a medically induced coma in Christchurch hospital.  I had seven operations to save my life and my left leg. I don't remember the resuccitation processes but they happened twice, once in the Air Ambulance and once in emergency theatre. I spent the next two months learning how to walk again. There were multiple people who saved my life that day, this is my way of thanking them by hopefully giving something back to the community who has the best shot of preventing something like this happening to others. I remember well struggling to walk, now I can run.... so Five Marathons in Five Days? Why not. Happy Christmas.
