Story
So I'm sitting at home (its November in Scotland so -5 degrees, rain battering the windows and flood warnings in the news) playing games on my xbox360 and a box pops up on the screen "Cavalcade has sent you a message". Thinking "that will be Ben, my sane and reasonable Welsh friend who recently moved to France wanting to catch up and play some games while sitting in the luxury of our warm and comfortable living rooms" - how wrong was I !!!
My so called sane and reasonable friend was in fact asking me if I would be up for doing something remarkable before we get too old, too fat, too busy, too fat, too lazy or too fat. "Speak for yourself I said...its already too late for me, its little coincidence my gamertag is Chubbs O Fatso."
The verbal to-ing and fro-ing ensued with a world record attempt at "eating the most macaroni cheese pies while playing games in a warm room" the firm favourite until, an idea formed that we could cycle somewhere. This progressed into, "we could cycle to my house from your house", of course I never cycled to his house when he lived 20 miles away...so why on earth would i do it now !
And that was the decision made.
The plan is to cycle from Edinburgh to Le Mans, approximately 800 miles over 10 days. We will be setting off on a sunny (??) day May 2010 from Edinburgh Castle and finishing in Le Mans on an even sunnier day 2 weeks later
With our good idea now agreed we headed our separate ways to find a good cause that means enough to get each of us; running in the rain, cycling in the floods and out of the house early on a sunday morning in negative temperatures and biting winds.
The good cause I have chosen is Hill Croft School. A school for children with learning difficulties where my mum is a teacher. After talking it through with her (when she stopped laughing at the thought of me cycling that far, and being proud I would be raising money for her school) She said the junior school where she is a teacher needed some bikes, trikes and road safety education equipment
