Ironman France · 27 June 2010 ·

The Downside Fisher Youth Club supports disadvantaged children and young people from Bermondsey and its neighbouring areas, enabling them to fulfil their social and economic potential as capable, confident young adults through a structured programme of educational, sporting and artistic activities.

Story

On 27th June I will be competing in my first Ironman in Nice, France. It is a big triathlon involving a 2.4 mile swim  in the Mediterranean, a 112 mile bike ride which is apparently 'unforgettable, sensational, scenic, hilly and arguably one of the greatest Ironman challenges' then a 26.2 mile run (a marathon). For details see http://www.ironmanfrance.com Unfortunately you are too late to enter....

I am putting myself through this (for fun...) and to raise money for the Downside Fisher Youth Club which 'supports socially excluded children and young people from Bermondsey and its neighbouring areas, and helps them to fulfil their potential as capable, confident young adults through a structured programme of sporting, artistic and recreational activities.' As the name suggests, they have a long affiliation with my old school, having been set up by a Downside monk in 1908. I last organised a sponsored run in aid of the Club ten years ago (from Bath to Downside), so thought it was time to do something again. http://www.downside-fisher.org/

If anyone fancies a weekend on the Cote D'Azur, please come and join me; it is famous for its beaches and for the scantily clad beach goers.

I am just back from a week of Sicilian hills which was a good start.. Please get in touch on 07999888292, if you have any questions.

Thanks,

Ed
