Story
Thank you for visiting the Marie Curie sponsorship page in memory of our fantastic mum Eileen Murray, who passed away on 28th January 2011. She was diagnosed with terminal kidney cancer just seven weeks before she died. We recently did the 10k Walk Ten at Stormont to raise funds for Marie Curie in memory of Mummy.
As I'm currently expecting my first baby I won't be able to do any sponsored walks for a little while, so I've decided to fundraise instead by getting my (very long) hair cut and donating the hair to a charity that makes wigs for little girls with cancer. If anyone would like to sponsor me it would be much appreciated.
To be honest none of us knew much about cancer before Mummy's diagnosis. The news came as a total shock for us but it opens your eyes to a whole world of diagnosis, treatments, palliative care teams, specialist equipment and nursing staff that I never knew existed. These are such important services and they deserve our support.
We honestly couldn't have done without the help of the Marie Curie nurses. They did such an important job by looking after Mummy during the night when she needed round the clock care so we could all get some sleep knowing that she was in safe hands and still be fresh enough to resume our caring duties in the morning. Those few hours sleep the nights we did have a nurse made all the difference as I was awake during the day to spend quality time with my Mum during her last days. The nursing service is fantastic for the families of cancer patients but it costs a lot of money to run so not all the families who could benefit from this are able to use the service. This is why supporting Marie Curie is so important to make the service available to more people.
I miss you so much Mummy, I'll love you forever!
