In memory of Sarah Struthers

Story

As some of you will know, our great friend, Sarah Struthers passed away in July after a brave 6 year war against late diagnosed bowel cancer, at the tender age of 53. She left three fantastic kids in their late teens and early 20's. As is often the case, the best people get called away early and she was one of the best.

Her final weeks were spent at St. Columba's Hospice in Edinburgh who were simply fantastic in giving her and her children the care and support needed to face into her final days.

They are an organisation whose work is only possible through charitable giving. Having spoken to Sarah's kids, Joss Mitchell and I are going to do the Rat Race Coast to Coast this Saturday to try and raise some funds to help them to give other terminally ill people the same care and support they gave Sarah.

The race starts at 6.45am on Saturday with a 7 mile run from Nairn to Cawdor to get the legs warmed up for a 83 mile cycle to Fort William (of which 20 miles is off road). The cycle is followed by a 14 mile yomp over the shoulder of Ben Nevis to Glencoe to be finished off with a 1 mile kayak across Loch Leven. In total, 105 miles coast to coast which most do over two days but which we are setting out to do in one, within a cut off of 13 hours.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
