Norfolk Family Walk · 24 September 2023 ·
In February 2022 our youngest son Xander, was diagnosed with a low grade glioma (tumour) on his brainstem. This was an incidental find and completely turned our world upside down. Neurosurgeons/oncologist at Manchester childrens hospital will not do a biopsy at the moment as the risk is too high but all signs indicate that it is a slow growing tumour but still growing non the less.
Surgery will never be an option for Xander due to the location of the tumour and should the tumour grow our options will be invasive treatments such as chemotherapy or radiotherapy. At the moment Xander is on watch and wait and has regular MRI scans at Manchester Childrens hospital/The Christie hospital, he is an absolute superstar and has taken all this in his stride.
Xander along with his older brother & sister, his dad and myself will be participating in the Norfolk 10 mile family walk to raise money for Astro Brain Tumour Fund.
Astro Brain tumor fund have provided us with so much support over the last 12 months. A safe space were we can share our worries, ask for advice or generally vent.
They are the only uk charity to focus purely on low grade gliomas and research into them.
We want to raise as much money as possible for this amazing charity to say thankyou for the support they have given to us and so many other families/people in the same situation and so that they can continue with their vital research with the hope that it will give our son and others more options in the future for treatment.
If you can donate to this fantastic charity we would be very grateful.
Thankyou
Elaine & Xander
