Eleanor and Simon's Coast to Coast

Eleanor and Simon's Coast to Coast · 23 June 2018
Starting on 26 July, I will be walking with my dad from the west coast of the UK to the east coast. We will start in St Bees Head in Cumbria and finish in Robin Hood Bay. We will be walking through the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales and then onto the North York Moors. The walk is 192 miles long and will take us just under 2 weeks. As for me, I'm ready for the challenge, but I'm not quite sure if Dad is after spending too long in the office!
My Dad and I have chosen to do this walk to help support a charity called Target Ovarian Cancer. We will also be doing this walk in memory of 2 very special women.
The first, my Auntie Stephanie, my Dad's twin sister who died from Ovarian Cancer in 2010. At the time she was only 44 and had 2 children aged 14 and 11. I will always remember her warm smile and how she would cycle with her dog beside her to exercise him.
The second is Wendy Bromwich, the registrar at my old school in Oakham who passed away on the 8th of June this year aged 56. Always encouraging and warm, she has had a huge impact on many students who have walked through the Brooke Priory front door.
These are only 2 women who have fought their battles. In the UK, 11 women die from Ovarian Cancer every day. Two thirds of women are only diagnosed once the cancer has spread. The survival rates in the UK are some of the lowest in Europe, meaning these women have the odds stacked against them.
Target Ovarian Cancer is the UK's leading Ovarian Cancer charity. They aim to improve early diagnosis and fund life-saving research while providing women with much needed support.
It's time to Take Ovar!
