Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page which builds on previous fundraising.
Our daughter, Elin Rose, was diagnosed with a rare bone cancer called Ewing's Sarcoma in April 2011, when she was 5 years old. She was a beautiful, strong, funny, determined and utterly inspiring little lady who loved life. Her friends and family adored her (and the ever-present twinkle in her eye). She took on life and the challenges of her extensive treatment with an indomitable will - she would cartwheel down hospital corridors, use the wards to play hide and seek, make things for the nurses and go to school whenever it was at all possible. School, stories (especially Harry Potter), lovely friends and wonderfully supportive family kept the smiles going through the years of chemotherapy. However, despite all the treatment here and abroad, the disease kept returning. We were all utterly devastated to lose Elin in May 2015.
Our fundraising for further treatment options for Elin has also allowed us to support the incredible work at The Institute of Cancer Research. We were so humbled by the generous response to our fundraising appeal to provide further treatment options for Elin. After May 2015 we were determined to use this fundraising to open up research in this desperately under-funded area. We connected with the ICR through Elin's consultant at the Royal Marsden and the research team under Professor Janet Shipley identified two promising areas of research into Ewing's treatments that we could support. The Elin Rose PhD Studentship started at the ICR in October 2016 and research will continue for four years. The potential for new treatments for children facing the same disease is what keeps us all going. Any contributions through this page will go directly towards supporting the Elin Rose PhD Studentship at The Institute of Cancer Research.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. We are so grateful for your support - and so proud that Elin's name is linked to this positive step forward. x
