"If you educate a girl, you empower a nation" - Rania Al-Abdullah
Who am I?
My name is Elise and I will be spending my summer educating children and supporting teachers in Mpumalanga, South Africa. I believe this is an amazing opportunity to immerse myself in a new culture whilst actively implementing a real social change in education.
What is Warwick in Africa?
The Warwick in Africa programme uses student volunteers to deliver inspirational maths and English lessons to some of the poorest schools in South Africa, Ghana and Tanzania, and introduces new teaching methods to inspire lasting change in the classroom. Not only this, but Warwick in Africa delivers 2 week training courses for teachers, so that they can use these skills for the future of the school.
My inspiration
I believe that education is a basic human right, particularly for young girls who tend to suffer the most from a lack of access to this. From my experience, it was the teachers who made a crucial impact and inspired me to have the ambition to enter higher education. I want to have the same influence on the young children I'll be spending my summer with. As someone who aspires for a career in sustainable development, I understand the importance of education as a tool for lifting the younger generation out of poverty.
Please help me to raise £1000 - this will keep Warwick in Africa running for many more years. It costs 10 pounds to teach a child for one month. No donation is too small!
Thank you so much for all your help ♥
