Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
All my life, I seemed to get hurt more than other kids, I always felt sick and so tired, constantly hurting my wrists, ankles, back etc. School nurses thought I was faking and dance teachers were forever shouting 'STOP HYPER EXTENDING!'. I was diagnosed with hypermobility when I was around 13 but it just didn't seem to fit, didn't account for the variety of symptoms I had. Finally when I was 15 I was diagnosed with type 3 hypermobility EDS with the symptoms of joint dislocations and subluxations, scoliosis, Raynaud's phenomenon and fatigue (and many more)
This is a rare genetic disorder due to a fault with the connective tissue of the body. I am very borderline and extremely lucky for it as I am able to have a normal life with only daily physiotherapy and sporadic pain killer use - there are many out in the world who are unable to work or walk due to this disorder.
For some, like me, this is ultimately an invisible disorder, and thus it can be hard for non-sufferers to understand that just because we look okay, we may not feel okay. We would love to come out and socialise but we just feel so tired, or we suffered a big dislocation earlier in the day and need some time.
I am doing this to fund those who need the support and education, to raise awareness for this relatively unknown disorder, and to fund the research that might one day help my children.
