Bristol 10K 2013 · 5 May 2013 ·

We are dedicated to improving the quality of life and chances of survival for young cancer patients aged 13-24. We fund and build specialist units in NHS hospitals and provide dedicated staff, bringing young people together so they can be treated by teenage cancer experts in the best place for them.

Story

I will be running Bristol 10k this Sunday, 5 May.

Those of you who know me quite well will know that, having run the 10k a number of times, a few half marathons and Paris Marathon last year, running 10k is not a massive deal for me.

However, this year I will be running for Teenage Cancer Trust, in memory of Ella Redman. Ella was my boss, Jim Tarzey’s niece, who lost her fight with cancer last November, aged 20. Her friends and family are getting together the biggest team to run the Bristol 10k to raise money towards a specialist young persons oncology unit in Bristol. This was Ella’s hope as one of the things she found most difficult was being treated alongside much older patients, where she stuck out as being the youngest by far.

I have never asked for sponsorship to do any of my runs to date, but this is different…

… in order to justify the challenge, I will be running the 6.2 miles as Spongebob Squarepants (see picture)…!

Those of you who know me even better will know that standing out in the crowd to this extent is a far harder challenge for me than any distance I am tasked to run!

Please dig deep and give me a cheer if you happen to be down there on the day!
