What's that awful smell?

At Christians Against Poverty, we equip local churches to support people facing debt and other financial challenges. We campaign for a redesigned society that works for everyone, including those on the lowest incomes. Find out more about us at capuk.org or follow us on social media.

Story

Well at least I'm not just cycling for my own selfish enjoyment... (OK so I am, but please don't tell anyone)

A coast-to-coast cycle tour in the Pyrenees, from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean, over some amazing Tour de France passes, is not much of a hardship, so I'm including  a whiff of unpleasantness. Not for the faint-hearted: I'll be wearing the same cycle gear for the whole trip. Rules:

    • I must wear the same tricot, shorts and socks for all of the cycling on the trip (around 9-10 days, 16,000m+ of climbing)
    • Clothes may not be washed but they can be hung up to dry off all the sweat (ugh!!)
    • If items are damaged due to accident I must make every effort to repair them. Only if they are destroyed by force majeure am I allowed to obtain replacements
    • In cases or rain or cold weather, or fast descents from mountain passes, I may don extra layers over my stinking gear
    • To avoid forcible eviction from restaurants, I am permitted to wear clean garments when not cycling (during the evenings)
    • For reasons of hygiene I reserve the right to change my underwear :-)

The thing that impressed me about Bella's video (attached below) is that these are ordinary people just like you or me, except they haven't got any money. We always say money doesn't matter but without it life is drab and hopeless.

Poverty and debt cause awful despair and misery, and it's easier than you think to fall into it. Once you're trapped, there seems to be no way out. It just gets worse and worse.....

It's weird how people are avoiding me now that I'm asking for money! But I'm one of the lucky ones. I'm just doing it for fun, unlike people who really have no friends in the world. Christians Against Poverty  make it their business to give them hope again by helping them climb out of this nightmare.

Please help me do something.

If you promise me an amount, however small, I will pay it to CAP in your name. I will take any currency and you don't have to actually give me the money until I complete the challenge. In the unlikely event that I fail, then I'll just have to pay it myself!
