Edukid aim to remove the barriers to education faced by children living in poverty and conflict around the world. We work in Cambodia, Uganda and Peru, ensuring children have access to quality education, in order to provide an opportunity for a brighter future, one which is free from poverty.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am completing a mountain triathlon in the Lake District during May half term which will include a 1km swim across Derwent Water, a 15km cycle around the lake to Skelgill and a 12km walk up Cat Bells and along the ridge to High Spy. This will probably take all day due to the terrain in the Lake District and will therefore will be a huge challenge.

I am raising money for a trip to Uganda and to support Edukid - a local charity based in Bideford which aims to help children in less privileged countries have the opportunity to go to school via sponsorship; it runs in three countries: Uganda, Palestine and Cambodia. Edukid helps find sponsorship for children in these countries to attend school so that they will hopefully have a greater chance to leave the poverty cycle.

One of the ways they try to get sponsorship is by sending people over to these countries to find out about the lives of the children who require support. After visiting, it is hoped that the British students will return to their schools and communities and spread the word about the people they have met and raise funds to sponsor them.

As a result of this, I have signed up to go on the 2019 trip to Uganda. During my trip I will be meeting children who are desperate to go to school and I will find out their stories. I will also be able to meet people who have been sponsored by Edukid and find out how their lives have changed by being able to attend school. I feel really passionately about everyone having equal opportunities and believe that one way to make people more equal is through education which is why I will be undertaking this trip.
