I started working for Action on Hearing Loss around 7 months ago and to be honest, I was taken aback by the lack of knowledge I had about hearing loss - even though I had a cousin who was deaf.

Action on Hearing Loss has been an eye opener - particularly teaching me that you shouldn't judge everything by its cover. So while many of us get the pleasures of being able to hear public announcements, go to our favourite movies and comedy shows, clubs and speak to those special people on the phone  - there are millions who sadly don't get to enjoy those luxuries the same way.

 

I am doing this run, to support a cause I very much believe in but also in memory of my cousin, to help others like her who are misunderstood, neglected by the 'big boys' and society in general. We can all make a difference if we stop and think.

There are over 6 million people living with hearing loss in the UK. That’s thousands of babies who are born deaf, or lose their hearing in early childhood – and thousands more adults who experience the trauma of sudden and profound hearing loss or face the distressing inexorable decline of their hearing in later life.

 

For many people with Hearing Loss it is a 24/7 condition, with no moments of respite. For many, life is a daily struggle that can destroy independence, careers and relationships, leaving them feeling isolated and disconnected from the world around them. Your gift could help us work towards a world where no one need face this daily fight.
