Story

Our dad was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung cancer in September 2016, a little over 5 weeks from diagnosis he sadly lost his fight and passed away at St Giles Hospice Walsall, surrounded by his wife Jude and daughters Ellen and Laura.

The around the clock care and support not only our dad received but us as a family unit, was truly remarkable. It’s not until a family member requires a palliative care service, you actually realise how valuable having a place like St Giles Hospice Walsall is.
During the darkest moment of all our lives, we were so lucky and thankful for all the care and support the staff provided to our dad and to us.
Sadly, St Giles Hospice Walsall receives some funding from the Government, however the charity relies heavily on donations and fundraising.

Therefore, Laura and I along with 16 of our amazing family and friends have registered to take part in this year’s 25km Brecon Beacons Trek Fest: - Paul Battles, Neil Newman, Lee Newman, Laura Beech, Heather Andrews, Anne Mason, Katie Mason, Michael Mason, Martin Lowe, Jemma Lloyd, Ricky Lloyd, Heidi Lay, Josh Lay, Stewart Pitt, Russell Pitt and Ryan Smith

What a challenge this is going to be, but with funds raised, we hope that other families are able to make some precious last memories with their loved one(s) at such a special and amazing place.

We will also be holding a charity event “a night to remember” the late Alf Knowles on Saturday 1st July 7pm – late, live Irish Band, children’s entertainment, hot food and lots of raffle prizes. Tickets are priced at £20.00 will all proceeds going to St Giles Hospice Walsall. If you are unable to attend, then pleased donate via the Just Giving page and please give what you can.

For our dad, our best friend and our hero, we need to make something good come from such a dark and dreadful time in our lives. Dad was and will always be one in a million and we want to make him proud, and give others the opportunity to make lasting memories within St Giles Hospice Walsall, so please, please, please give what you can.

THANK YOU XxX
