Back in 2022 Polar Academy visited my school. Polar Academy has been established for over 10 years and they  take a group of young people to Greenland in winter in harsh conditions for 10 days. The charity select a small group of teenagers and take them on a journey to develop their skills as leaders and build confidence with intense training before the expedition.

I put my name down and eventually got through to a selection weekend at Glenmore Lodge with underwater activities, rock climbing, tyre pulling and hill climbing. It wasn’t a fitness test but an opportunity for the coaches to see how you would work as part of a team and under pressure, behaviours that are needed whilst rough camping in minus 25 degrees!  I loved every minute and enjoyed trying new things, although out of my comfort zone on occasions.  I made friends with the other cadets. 

It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity and my training starts now. So I’ve signed up to the Kiltwalk in Dundee, 20 miles walk which I’m doing with the other polar cadets from Bucksburn Academy. I hope to raise money for this amazing charity.
