Hi i'm Ellie! I am 17 years old and currently studying for my A-Levels with dreams of going to university next year. Cancer has had a massive impact on my life for a while now. In April 2011 my dad was diagnosed with a very aggresive form of cancer called Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. A cancer of the blood, its usually found in the glands but rarely, my dads was found in his brain. After intensive chemotherapy and only a month cancer free it had returned stronger than ever. In September 2011 he was declared terminal. Following this he was given emergency radiotherapy which lasted till that November. Since then he has been cancer free and to the doctors surprise, beat all odds and lived past his maximum life expectency which ended April 2013. However shortly before returning to sixth form at the end of the summer we noticed dad showing some signs of it being back and now 2 years and 7 months after his orginal dignosis we have been told the heartbreaking news that no other treatmeant can be used and dad only has a few months left. News like that is never easy to process but being the oldest of 3 its my job to be strong and to be a role model. I am standing up to cancer to show my siblings and my family that cancer dosen't control us, that we are fighters and we are strong. I want to make my dad proud, i want him to know that i made a difference and that when he leaves us, he doesn't have to worry becuase i've got this and i'm not letting cancer take anymore innocent dads, mums, brothers, sisters, sons, daughters, aunts, uncles NO ONE, has to leave this family.

Last year, Cancer Research UK and Channel 4 joined forces to launch Stand Up To Cancer in the UK to accelerate progress in cancer research. Stand Up To Cancer is a decisive strike at the core of cancer. Today 1 in 3 people will develop cancer but our fight against this disease is at a turning point. It needs a catalyst. SU2C is that catalyst, and that’s why I’ve chosen to Stand Up To Cancer this year. Please help me raise funds to give cancer research the boost it needs to develop new treatments, bring cures faster and save more lives.
