So, this is probably the first and (most definitely) the last Marathon that I will be sober for... Until after the race that is!
In January 2004, the funniest man I knew sadly passed away due to a sudden heart attack; a man who was loving, caring, kind, and meant everything and more to me. Our Grandad Charlie. He was, and still is, a massive credit to our family. He would have done anything for anyone, from making you laugh when you're down to giving away his last tenner... Anything to help anyone! We all miss him dearly. Further to this, in more recent months, our family lost another special person to heart failure; my lovely Nanny Pat.
Because of this, I have decided to run the 2018 London Marathon, in their memory, and fundraising for the British Heart Foundation. There are so many amazing charities out there, but the BHF is a cause close to me and my family.
If Grandad Charlie was still with us today, and knew that I was planning on running the London Marathon, he would be sat in his armchair with his whisky telling me how mad I am... Especially as I can't even walk up the stairs without getting out of breath! (I take after him with my crazy ideas and ways!)
To sum it up - this is for you both, Grandad Chaz and Nanny Pat!
If you can donate, no matter how big or small, you are a step closer to help saving a life...and you also get to see me struggle to run 26 miles on April 22nd 2018!
Thank you.
Ellie Xx
