Story

London Marathon 2018!

Hi! I will be running the London Marathon on the 22nd April 2018.

I will be running for Crohn's and Colitis UK to raise awareness for Inflammatory Bowel Disease and raise money for the charity. I have chosen this charity because Crohn's and Colitis has affected many people close to me; both family and close friends.

The two people pictured with me above, are Katie (my partner) and Chelsea (sister-in-law). Both Katie and Chels have Crohn's disease.

Crohn's is a chronic condition. This means that it is ongoing and life-long, although you may have periods of good health (remission), as well as times when symptoms are more active (relapses or flare-ups)

I have seen how the information and medical support for Crohn's disease can help manage the symptoms and maintain a normal quality of life. My partner Katie was diagnosed nearly 4 years ago, I have seen Katie at her worst during this time; however, with some alterations to lifestyle and the right medication, Katie now lives a great quality of life.

The trigger for wanting to run for Crohn's and Colitis UK was seeing the effect the disease can have at its worse. Chelsea is soon to be a mother of 3, and has lived with Crohn's for over ten years having multiple surgeries and exhausted a wide range of medications to treat the disease since the age of 17. In March 2017 Chelsea suffered a major flare up which required emergency surgery (ileostomy) in order to ensure both her and her unborn baby were safe. Whilst the surgery dealt with the immediate threat to Chelsea's health; the following 6 months have not been plain sailing. Chelsea has amazingly adapted to the lifestyle changes an ileostomy bag has on someone; especially whilst heavily pregnant with two other little boys at home (my two crazy nephews, who if they had it their way would have me dressed as a Minion for the race - maybe if I hit my target!). However, the changes have led to other health problems not directly related to Crohn's, so once the baby is born; Chels is hoping to have reversal surgery.

Out of all my family members, I am probably the least likely to run (or even finish) a marathon. My dad is an accomplished runner, and wants me to be up there with Mo at the front - however, my goal is to run under 4 hours; which will require A LOT of training.I am sure London as an event will be a great experience and I cannot wait to get over that finish line.

Please donate to this great cause! I will update on here and social media about any fundraising events I will be holding to help reach (hopefully smash) my target!
