I ran the London marathon for the first time last year in April! It was hard, tiring, but amazing. The charity ball was a huge success and in total raised over £5,000 for Tommy's. This year I'd like to try and double this target.

As many of you know, I am a midwifery Sister at Basildon Hospital and have worked here for 11 years. I have also worked at the Portland Hospital in London in the private sector. I am fortunate to say that majority of the time I have the best job in the world. One that is so rewarding and most cases has a happy ending. However one in four women lose a baby during pregnancy and childbirth and this is something I feel should never happen. In 2012 I joined the bereavement team on delivery suite at Basildon hospital to help support bereaved families going through this traumatic time.

Tommy's funds research into pregnancy problems and provides information to parents. When a pregnancy fails or a baby dies, it causes devastation. Twenty three years ago, frustrated at the lack of research that meant they could rarely tell families why their babies were dying, two obstetricians in St Thomas' Hospital in London were inspired to start a campaign for more research into pregnancy problems. Soon, their cause was taken up by others and a charity known as 'Tommy's' (after St Thomas' Hospital) was born. That was in 1992. Today Tommy's lead the way in maternal and fetal research in the UK.

Tommys are supported by people who refuse to accept that a baby's death is just 'one of those things'. The people who support Tommys want to do something about the lack of research and information around pregnancy issues. I believe every parent has the right to a healthy pregnancy and baby.

Tommys target is to halve the number of babies that die during pregnancy or birth by 2030. Please sponsor me to support Tommys in achieving this target and the wonderful work they do.
