Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My partner, Martin, was seriously ill with multiple blood clots on both lungs (twice), and was informed after the first time that he was very lucky to have survived as he was mis-diagnosed twice. After many tests and various treatments, he was diagnosed with having Hughes Syndrome.
Hughes Syndrome (also known as Antiphospholipid Syndrome (APS) or Sticky Blood), is an autoimmune condition in which there is an increased tendency for the blood to clot. The clotting can affect any organ in the body and the consequences can include potentially fatal conditions such as heart attacks, strokes and DVTs. In pregnancy, Hughes Syndrome is the most common treatable form of recurrent miscarriage, it can also cause infertility and stillbirths. The condition is still often unknown by both doctors and patients.
The Hughes Syndrome Foundation became a UK registered charity in 2001 and aims to support patients with the condition; to raise awareness of the disease both among the general public and the medical community; and to raise funds to provide information, education and the all-important medical research.
Hughes Syndrome is potentially treatable. However, as the condition is relatively new, it often goes undetected or misdiagnosed. With your help I hope to raise the profile of Hughes Syndrome so that we can discover more about its causes, prevalence and treatment and help prevent any unnecessary suffering.
